Life is Strange came out not too long ago and is already incredibly popular. Square Enix has made yet another game to remember. Life is Strange is a game with heavy focus on decisions and storytelling. The graphics are impressive, though at times iffy depending on the platform, and are relatively good on even the lowest quality settings. The story is, as to be expected, the main point of the game. It’s told so well and with enough sense of real life to make it enticing. It has certainly has proven that dramatic story based games are still popular and very doable.
Life is Strange is often described as being like The Walking Dead or Heavy Rain and it holds up very well in comparison. With a limited market on deep, thought provoking, dramatic games its good to see one that does it well. There are, as to be expected, occasional hiccups in the game, but not an unreasonable amount. At times your choices play out in the same way no matter what option you picked, and its a little frustrating. Any game that has an element of action and consequence eventually finds itself falling back onto important plot points that are necessary to progress the game. So I can forgive it as they occur pretty infrequently. It’s hard to talk about Life is Strange without mentioning the time travel aspect. To keep it simple, it’s not as fun once you’ve used it a couple of times. It’s often only necessary if you come to a point where you want to change your answer or replay a segment you liked. So when I’m asked if its a good feature, I have to respond that its a necessity rather than a selling point. As far as Story based games go, Life is Strange is better than most. It’s a little frustrating at times, but is entertaining enough that it’s worth the time. For only five bucks on Steam for the first episode, or twenty for all five, Life is Strange is certainly decently priced as far as money to time ratio. I’ve spent hours and have loved every second, and I’m sure you will too. |
