The New Nintendo 3DS. Is it as good as Nintendo claims it is? Do all the features added to it make it a worthwhile purchase? is it really all that ‘new’? Today, I hope to answer all these questions and more, so let’s not waste any time, let’s talk about the New Nintendo 3DS.
First thing people ask about is the 3D function. Does it really follow your eyes? Does it waste a lot of battery power? Is it really that much better? Yeah, it does follow you eyes, not really, battery power isn’t too affected, and yes, it is that much better. People complained about Nintendo not having this sooner, or even on any 3DS model prior. THey shoot back with claims that such technology wasn’t available. I honestly think that Nintendo just wanted more time to perfect it. They HAD the means to add it, but didn’t like what it was at the time.
Let’s move on to the second question; Do the new features make it better? Short answer; Yes. Long answer; It’s a little too soon to tell. The New Nintendo 3DS hasn’t even been out for a third of a year, and it has had only ONE exclusive title, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. It’s a port of the Wii Title Xenoblade Chronicles. Is it better? That’s debateable. Does it run well and look good? Yes. Should you buy a New 3DS just for that? No, not at all.
The ZR and ZL buttons had me sceptical at first as seeing where they were placed, but now that I’ve used the system, I’m convinced that they are just right. They are perfectly sized and positioned in just the right spot to be used. I like the added buttons, and I look forwards to seeing them get used more by developers. The C Stick is the next big addition. Is it useable where it is placed. Yeah, but you have to move your hand away from the A B X Y buttons. It’s so small, does it actually work? Yeah, surprisingly it does. It took a little getting used to positioning my hands and getting a feel for how it handled, but it actually works very well. So the Added buttons and C Stick are getting an A OK from me.
Is this a ‘new’ 3DS or just a beefy regular 3DS XL? It’s a little more beefy, but it is certainly ‘new’. It functions just right. Loading games, downloading software, and playing online are all improved. It’s a welcome improvement that a lot of people complained about not having sooner. The massive speed boost is noticeable and makes for much better play. THe only issue I have with this is that some older games can’t make use of this faster processing. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, despite being even newer than Smash 4, don’t get enhanced by this speed boost. Unfortunately so, but it’s not too major. Titles that originally had the Pro attachment for the original 3DS can be used with the C Stick now, and that’s amazing. I’d say, that the New Nintendo 3DS, is definitely ‘new’.
Now that you’ve heard my thoughts on the hardware and software of the system, let’s get to what you all really came to this for; should I get one? To some, a simple question, to others, a question they have no answer for. It is a good system. But one major downside to getting it for those who never had a Nintendo product before this, no charger. That’ll cost you another ten bucks or so and has to be bought from a 3rd party, most of the time at least. I’d recommend it, but it is toos soon to say for sure if this is a good buy. Pick it up on sale, or wait for more exclusives. Do it sometime, because this is a system you won’t want to miss out on.
