For those with a 3DS, you’ll likely be aware of the lack of free games and applications other than Youtube, Nintendo Video and, Swapnote. But there is one of the few that stands out, Steel Diver: Sub Wars. It’s a submarine underwater warfare game with heavy emphasis on multiplayer. There is a paid version with loads more to do and the game becomes far more open in terms of content.
The single player content is a seemingly small amount of content with very little purpose at first glance. But if you take the time to complete the campaign you’ll be rewarded with new ships, crew members, and you’ll become a better player because of it. The main item gotten out of the single player is Crew members. most of the later game crew are improvements on previous ones and are thus going to take time to get.
Steel Diver: Sub Wars’ multiplayer mode is by far the main selling point of the game. In only a few short hours you can learn everything you need to become great at it. The controls are easy to learn and every function is useful. No matter how good of a player the enemy is, you can always take them down as a team. It isn’t a forced thing, but when you work together you can easily overpower the enemy subs.

Steel Diver: Sub Wars has an incredible amount of DLC to get but some of them are better than others. In a recent update to the game, players can pay to increase a ship's crew capacity. This makes players able to make their already powerful subs, nearly unsinkable. I’d suggest the Sen Toku I-400. It may be a short ranged sub but it has ten torpedoes and a small reload time. With only two crew, you can get 12 torpedoes and a four second reload time. It has a decent amount of health and speed so you can escape quickly if needed. As on this review, my Sen Toku I-400 has earned me a SEVEN win streak.
Now for the moment of truth, is Steel Diver: Sub Wars good enough to buy the premium? Yes, in every way this game is worth ten bucks to get the extra stuff. Maybe not right away, but after a few days of a month it’ll become more useful. The campaign isn’t the best but it’s a multiplayer focused game anyways. If you haven’t played the first Steel Diver, be glad, cuz this sequel is a thousand time better anyways.
